Office Furniture For Your Small Home
Particularly people in lofts, flats, and apartments cherish every square foot of space. Families are also moving closer to town and needing more flexibility in room design where perhaps home office furniture and a gym is combined. The product here is a concept from Ligne Roset designer, Eric Jourdan, called "Hyannis Port". I absolutely love this setup in white lacquer. The chair is a great match and creates a wonderful work environment. The way the bottom is finished off with a metal rail is very cool. It creates a bit of openness that differs from most desks which finish all the way to the floor.

Home Decoration Secrets
We always want our homes to be perfect. That is understandable since our home is our abode, our personal sanctuary, the place we look forward to go to after a whole day of stressful work. This is why, one of the most important things a homeowner has to do is to decorate his or her home in such a way that it will be a nice and relaxing escape. This article reveals top 10 home decoration secrets that you surely would want to know.
1. Visualizing is the key
Do not simply make an exact replica of the living room you found on the home interior magazine. Visualize on your own how you want your home to look like, how you want home decors like your wall plaques and paintings to be hung on the wall. Visualization of each room will make it easier for you to do your planning and decoration.
2. Start with a focal point
Any veteran interior designer knows how important it is to start with a focal point in any room so that other home décor items will flow easily around it. It is always a great idea to select an item that gives a big impact like the fireplace, a piano or a sofa.
3. Colors have psychological effect
Colors are important design elements not only because it determines the ambience and feel of the room, and gives the illusion of space but also because they have psychological effects on people.
For example, blue, which is the least appetizing color is not a good shade to paint in your dining area or kitchen. Meanwhile, light and pastel colors, which can relax the mind, are a good idea for the living room. Make sure that the colors you choose complement well with each other.
4. A theme makes it easier to achieve unity and harmony
A décor theme not only makes home decoration a lot easier but is also important because it reflects the homeowner’s personal taste and style. Your theme can be classic, modern, nautical, tropical, European, Asian or whatever you can think of.
Buy furniture and home accessories that match the theme that you have chosen. For example, if the theme of your home is contemporary, modern metal wall plaques would be a great addition while if you have a coastal theme, you might as well go for nautical wall art.
5. Clutter can ruin even the nicest home decoration
Get rid of everything that you do not need or hardly ever use and neatly store them in the storage room. Even if you have the most expensive or most gorgeous home decor, all these are useless if your room is filled with clutter.
6. Lighting is just as important as furniture
Lighting is important because of two things. First, it illuminates the room and allows people to do the things they need to do. Second, it creates an ambience and feel of the room. Because of this, you need to choose the proper kind of lighting, which will make you achieve both objectives. Lamp and fluorescent are great for general and task lighting while candles and smaller lamps are ideal for accent lighting.
7. Strive to achieve a balance between form and function
Form is just as important as function and because of that, it is necessary to achieve a balance between the two when buying furniture or decorating your home. To put it simply, you must be able to decorate your home in such a way that it will be both practical and beautiful.
We all know that home decoration is not as easy as we want it to be. However, it is also true that we do not need a doctorate degree on interior decoration to get the job done right. With a dash of creativity, resourcefulness and patience, we can have a home that looks like one of those featured in interior designing magazines.

Tips to Replace a Lighting Fixture
1. Start by turning off the power to the fixture's circuit at the service panel.
2. When you remove the fixture base on a wall or ceiling-mounted fixture, or the cover plate on a strip fluorescent fixture, test the wiring to verify that the power is indeed off. Probe each set of insulated wires with one lead of a neon tester and the metal box or grounding wire with the other. If the tester lights, the power is still on.
3. Remove the screws or cap nuts that secure a globe or glass light shade.
4. Remove the screws or cap nuts that secure the fixture, fixture body or canopy to the outlet box. Support the full weight of a heavy fixture during this step and the next. Get help for a heavy one, especially if you are working overhead from a ladder.
5. With the wiring in the outlet box now accessible, repeat the power test described in step 2. When you've confirmed that there's no power in the outlet box, remove the wire connectors that join the fixture wires to the house. If the fixture body is grounded, remove the screw or nut that secures the grounding (green) wire.
6. You must secure fixtures that weigh over 50 lbs. (23 kg) independently of the electrical box. If you have access from above, install wood bridging between the joists above the box. Then screw the box into the bridging from below. If you don't have access to install a support from above, purchase retrofit mounting hardware for a ceiling fan and install it according to the manufacturer's instructions.
7. Compare new mounting-hole requirements with the existing provisions at the outlet box. If necessary, purchase a new mounting strap or a universal mounting plate, which will accommodate virtually any fixture.
8. Connect the new fixture to the same wires that connected the old fixture, and mount the fixture to the box with screws or cap nuts as required. Create a loop in the wires with long-nose pliers, then wrap them clockwise under a terminal screw. Or use electrician's pliers to twist the wires from a prewired fixture together with the house wires, then secure them with wire nuts. Cut off excess with wire cutters.

How to Clean Shag Area Rugs
Clean Often
The best way to make cleaning shag area rugs easier is to clean them frequently, so you won’t have caked-in stains that require a far more thorough cleaning. Clean rugs in high-traffic areas (particularly if you have pets) a minimum of twice per week. Rugs that are less frequently trod upon should still be cleaned at least once a week, as dust can accumulate. Running the vacuum over the rug should be sufficient between bigger stains.
Attack Stains Immediately with Wet Wipes
If you see stains on your shag area rugs, particularly pet vomit or urine, you must attack the stains as soon as possible to prevent them from settling into the rug permanently. The first step is to gently remove as much of the stain as you can with a wet paper towel or an alcohol-free wet wipe (such as a baby wipes). Scoop any excess dirt or vomit and then blot the stain gently with the wet paper towel or wet wipes.
Use a Small Amount of Detergent to Wash, then Rinse
Wet stains with a little water if not still wet after the wet wipes and squeeze a small drop of bleach-free laundry detergent over the stain. Use a bristle brush to work the suds into the stain. Allow to set for about 5 to 10 minutes and then rinse with a small amount of cold water. You can also perform a maintenance cleaning of shag area rugs in your bath tub with laundry detergent. Fill the tub about one quarter high and pour in 1/4 to 1/2 cup laundry detergent under the running water. Dunk the entire rug under water and, with rubber gloves on, scrub the rug with the bristle brush. Empty the bathtub and run the shower head over the rug to rinse it. Once suds stop appearing, gently roll the rug and squeeze excess water into the tub. Then hang the rug in the bathtub and allow a few hours for it to dry.
Vacuum with Baking Soda
When working on a small stain, after you have washed and rinsed the stain, allow the area to dry. Then sprinkle the stain with a liberal amount of baking soda. Use the bristle brush to work the baking soda into the stain and allow the soda to sit overnight. Vacuum the soda away the next morning. You can also sprinkle baking soda over the entire rug, allow it to sit for about 10 minutes and vacuum it away during your routine maintenance cleanings. This will help keep the rug smelling fresh and clear away small amounts of dirt and dander.
Cleaning shag area rugs can prove more difficult than cleaning most carpets or rugs, but it’s not an impossible chore, particularly if you remain proactive about keeping the rugs clean. If your stains are very old and the detergent and baking soda treatment doesn’t work, you can try commercial cleaners or taking the rugs to a professional cleaner.

A Children’s Desk Set
Before you go shopping for a children’s desk set, it’s important to measure the area you’ll be putting the furniture in, as well as an electronic equipment or other objects that will need to be stored there. You should also measure your child to make sure that he or she will fit the children’s desk and chair you’re thinking about buying. Since kids grow so fast, one thing to consider when buying a children’s desk set is adjustability. Adjustable furniture will grow with your child, allowing you to get a few more years out of a desk that would otherwise be outgrown.
Other important features include rounded corners on desks and tables, as well as edge banding that’s resistant to denting. All surfaces should be easy to clean and resistant to scratches and stains. One popular choice that fits the bill is laminate on a steel or wood frame. Make sure that all moving parts operate smoothly, without the danger of pinching little fingers. If you’re looking for more storage, consider children’s desk sets with optional hutches, keyboard drawers, shelves, and more. You can also find mobile kids desks
on castors that can be moved around easily, and specially made kids task chairs. Some of them have an adjusting height feature, which is great for growing children. Look for chairs that have a star shaped base to provide greater stability, and an upholstered back and seat for more comfort.
Remember that many of these children’s desk sets will need to be assembled once you get them home. Allot the appropriate amount of time for putting them together, and read instructions carefully. A little effort could get you a great desk that your child will enjoy for years to come.

Ideas For Placement Your Family Room Furniture
The family room gets more traffic than almost any other room in the house. Most people do the majority of their entertaining in the family room and, as the name suggests, the room is a place to relax and unwind with loved ones. Furniture placement can make or break a room. A comfortable, inviting room makes it easier for you and your guests to feel at home.
Planning and Placement: Planning is the most important, yet most neglected, step of furniture placement. Many people place furniture where they think it should naturally go, only to be disappointed later by the look and feel of the room. Create a floor plan of your family room on graph paper and measure large pieces of furniture to help you envision furniture placement. Consider the size and shape of the room in relation to the pieces of furniture you want in the room. You may find that you have too much or not enough furniture to create the atmosphere you want.
Every room has a focal point. The focal point may be a feature of the room itself, such as a large window or an oddly angled wall. In plainer rooms, your focal point will probably be your biggest piece of furniture. In the family room, this is most likely your entertainment center. Play up the focal point by making it stand out in an area that can be seen from anywhere in the room. Don't crowd too much furniture or too many decorations around your focal point.
Do your planning in the family room so that you can envision the look of each furniture placement idea. Walk around the room the way you would normally go to prevent placing obstacles in high-traffic areas. Downplay imperfections and irregularities in flooring and wallpaper or paint by strategically hiding them under or behind your furniture.
Your family room is a gathering place, so make it open and inviting by arranging seating in a circle or semicircle. Don't make the mistake of thinking all furniture has to be placed against a wall. Angled furniture can create a sophisticated, yet homey design. Crowding furniture together doesn't make the room look bigger; it only creates a sense of clutter. Open up your space by placing small end tables or lamps at opposite corners, and separate armchairs instead of placing them rigidly side by side.
Feng Shui: Many people like to follow ancient Chinese feng shui traditions when placing furniture. In the family room, feng shui dictates that couches and chairs face the door, or be placed so that people sitting on them have an unobstructed view of the door. Placing seating with the back to the door obstructs energy flow, according to feng shui traditions.
Electronics are thought to create an overabundance of yang energy, so feng shui traditionalists suggest placing televisions and computers in entertainment centers with doors that close. If this is not possible, consider covering electronics with a decorative fabric when not in use.
In feng shui, the windows symbolize your outlook on the world, so furniture should not obstruct them and window coverings should be easy to open.

Tips to Brick an Interior Wall
1. Create a guide on your wall with chalk to indicate where every second or third row of brick should start. This will keep your tiles even and level. Measure 2-1/4 inch for each row, adding 3/8 inch for the grout. Do this every second or third row. Mark the lines on the wall with a pencil.
2. Apply thin set to the wall with a notch trowel. Work in 4- to 6-foot sections at one time so the thin set won't dry too quickly. Choose thin set that is the consistency of toothpaste. A runny mixture will cause the tiles to slip.
3. Cut tile pieces for the edges using a tile cutter. Simple, manual tile cutters are available at most home improvement stores. If you are working with a large area and will be making lots of cuts, rent a wet saw. Check the first course of brick with a level.
4. Set the second course of bricks using the same method used to apply the first. Offset the bricks so that the midpoint of each brick lines up with the seam of the bricks above it. Use spacers to keep the bricks evenly spaced, leaving 3/8 of an inch for grout. Continue this process until your wall is completely covered. Allow the thin set to dry overnight.
5. Fill the grout lines with sanded tile grout. Choose a color of grout that closely resembles mortar. Work the grout between the bricks with a pointed trowel. This will reduce the amount of grout that you will need to clean off of the face of each brick.
6. Clean the grout from the surface of the tiles with a sponge and water. Wipe away all grout from the bricks. Clean the sponge and water often. Allow the grout to dry completely.

Tips to Decorate your Living Room
Either buying fresh living room furniture or upgrading the previous collection, you got to keep certain important points in mind. Topping the list is the layout of your room. Not everyone has a huge living space, but everyone wants to fit in almost everything a living room should have in the best possible way. Keep in mind, utilize how much ever space you have in such a way that you can fit in all that you want and yet make it look spacious.
Another tip is to purchase neutral colors when it comes to your big ticket items like sofas, and easy chairs. Colors like beige, brown, and chestnut are easier to match to, than white, red, and yellow. The more toned down the furniture is in terms of color, the better off you will be to match the living room furniture with one, and other.
You will need to make a note of where the sun shines into a room when it comes to placing furniture. Arrange the seating accordingly and use artificial lighting, such as lamps or tracks to balance and complement the darker areas.
You shouldn't need to use excessive photographs of your family in living rooms, always try to use contemporary frames and places, which give fantastic contemporary touches to your room decor. You may choose a variety of contemporary furniture for your room, manufactured by different kinds of materials like glass, chrome, leather, stainless steel, wood and platinum.
As your lounge is an area where you relax and chill out or even socialize and entertain your guests, so it important to go for collection that includes sectional sofas, chaise lounges, coffee tables, TV strands, end tables, side tables, or tub chairs. Accentuating your individual style, they reflect your personality in a unique way. They enhance your living area and help you enjoy conversations as long as possible.
End tables, or occasional tables, should be located near the proximity of the sofa. These tables are used for holding beverages, remote controls, magazines, and coffee table books. Your primary concern when choosing an end table should be style --- it must match well with your sofa and the general style of the room.
Drawing rooms can be a difficult area for arranging as there are many different things that can go into a living room. If you find that you have too many pieces in the room remove some and allow others to fit nicely. There is no need to over clutter your drawing room as you want it to be comfortable.
Quality sofas are those that have simple back cushions and plain scroll arms. These types of sofas will work best for families and are great pieces in the living room. This simple design will make the items fit for any theme and for any generation all through the years.
Your living room furniture is a beautiful investment to enhance your home. Depending on the overall effect you want to create, state your style with either a conventional classic look or a trendy modern environment.

Remodeling Your Bathroom
Bathroom remmodeling is so expensive that not all the people can afford. There are several key fixtures to consider when you work on your bathroom, most of them expensive. There is flooring to consider, as well as paint, and the result of anything going wrong is a place that you will spend a lot of time in while not enjoying the room.
Of course, to be successful, you need to design your remodeling project well before you swing a single hammer. If you take the time to work out a well-planned bathroom remodeling design, a wonderful new bathroom is sure to follow.
Function Before Form
The secret to a comfortable bathroom is to consider the function of your bathroom before you think about what it will look like. No matter how pretty your bathroom looks, if you have a poor bathroom remodeling design, one that makes your bathroom uncomfortable to use, you won’t enjoy it. Throughout your bathroom remodeling design process, consider what you want your bathroom to do and work towards that goal.
Map it Out
When you are working on the design for your bathroom remodeling project, make sure to take accurate measurements of your bathroom and create a map that you can work with. Mark where the plumbing is, mark where your fixtures are, and you’ll be able to better plan what you need to do. The key to successful bathroom remodeling design is good planning, and a map is a great way to keep you focused on exactly where everything needs to be.
Consider Your Fixtures
Make sure to know exactly where your fixtures will go when designing your remodeling project, since you need the plumbing there to accommodate them. Unless you can somehow move the location of your fixtures, your sink, tub, and toilet are going to be exactly where you have them right now. In most cases, the location of your fixtures is going to be a hard limit, so plan accordingly.
Locate Things Sensibly
When you decide where smaller fixtures, such as the towel rack or even the toilet paper roll, go in the bathroom remodeling design, keep in mind that they should go in places that are sensible, once again going back to function over form. The towel rack might look nice by the door, but if it’s out of arm’s reach of the bathtub, then you won’t be happy whenever you get out of the shower, for example. With all things in bathroom remodeling design, if you design with an eye for common sense and space, you will be successful in your attempt to create a room that’s both stylish and functional.

Bedroom Furniture in Modern Design
The term “modern bedroom” does not refer to the physical “age” of the room itself. Rather, a “modern bedroom” is one decorated in a manner that parallels modern design values. Generally, this means that for your furnishings to be considered modern bedroom furniture, they have to be indicative of a characteristically modern minimalist aesthetic. To put it simply: For a modern bedroom, less is more. To achieve a truly modern look, you will first need to de-clutter your bedroom.

Let’s face it – we purchase leather living room furniture because of the luxury and feel of it as well as the quality that’s put into its construction. Leather sofas are synonymous with the finer things in life. Modern Furniture Warehouse has a large selection of beautiful traditional and contemporary leather sofas. Finding your style is easy and we make it owning that style affordable and easy with our free shipping offer* and easy financing options. Like the crisp look of white? Take a look at the Aristocrat Sofa in white. The tufted back and sides are great for providing texture and depth while the black ball feet are the ideal contrast against the crisp look of solid white. Note the ribbed arm fronts and attention to detail along the bottom skirting. It’s a luxurious addition to the most modern of living rooms.
For a streamlined and sleek look, consider an armless leather sofa. The Diamond Sofa by the Zen Collection is contemporary and all about flexibility in placement options. With a kiln dried hardwood frame, you know your selection is durable and will look great for years. The top grain leather ensures its beauty, and the attached seat and back cushions are ideal for keeping wear and tear to a minimum. The lack of arms gives it a modular feel that makes it easy to move around in even the smallest of spaces. Look for the spring seat suspension for maximum comfort, too.
We also have several styles of both left facing and right facing leather sofas in several colors. These, again, are made for flexible seating arrangements and are made with the same durability and high quality as all of our home furnishings.sofathurs

Teen Bedroom Design
If you have a girl, chances are she's outgrown the pink or lavender colors that most likely graced her room as a young child. She's testing the waters and picking out what she likes. At this point, she probably does have a favorite color and this would be a good place to start. If you start with her favorite color and then look to the things that she's interested in when considering wall art or accessories for her room, this will bring the room together nicely. For example, if yellow is her favorite color and she's really interested in music, start with yellow paint for her walls. Choose a shade with her so that she feels she's a part of the process and that her opinion matters. When the room is painted, look for items to add to her walls that enhance her tastes. Perhaps a large musical note can be displayed on the wall or some wallpaper border with musical notes displayed throughout to line the tops of the walls.
Similarly, a boy should be given the same type of consideration as a girl when choosing the decor for his room. However, it may be a little more difficult to get him involved in the whole process, yet if you ask him to own the process by being a part of all of it; the painting and wallpapering, as well as the shopping and decorating, more willingness may evolve. Again, start with his favorite color, then take him with to choose the paint from the hardware store. When it comes time to paint his walls, ask him to help. Take him back to the store to choose the items that will be purely decorative. If he's into model boats or trains, ask him to build a few to later hang with fish line from his ceiling. Adding the feel of ownership over the project will help your young man jump in with two feet and you'll end with a room that you can both be happy about.
